I'm a child of Berkeley in the 60's, but moved to West LA in 1979 -- which busted up my whole perspective. That's when I started to learn about class stratification, saw big houses with intentional landscaping, got teased for having knock-off name-brand jeans...and it had a big impact on my personal desires and created a lot of internal conflict for me. I work that conflict out in my paintings. In a perfect world, there would be equal distribution of wealth, but you'd still get to fly first class and sleep on 1000 thread count sheets if you really wanted to. I want to...
