Weekend inspiration: escape indoors

Lonny Magazine Natori house

Not all of us are able to get out of town every weekend, no matter how high the mercury climbs, but that doesn't mean that you can't find a way to escape within your own space. Above we take inspiration from Lonny magazine's profile of Ken and Anika Yael Natori's incredible living room teepee for an at-home getaway. With a simple teepee, like this one available from Pottery Barn, or a similar fort-like structure kids and parents can create an indoor getaway that is perfect for reading, napping, coloring, cuddling or simply sipping iced tea. Simply add pillows and some fairy lights for inspiration and you've got an instant getaway the whole family will love. Have kids pin their drawings to the inside of the teepee for a mini pop-up gallery experience.

Below, we discovered this pic on Pinterest (source needed) and love how this family has created a mini study getaway under the eaves. With a miniature desk, chair and desk lamp and a simple black-and-white color scheme, the scale of this nook is just right. We especially like how the art is hung at kids' eye level and includes a mix of media. And the best part? The location ensures that parents won't intrude on the serious busy work of kids' creative time.
