Love this painting by Huston-based Kevin Peterson, so whimsical yet urban. It's a good reminder that not all childhoods take place behind white picket fences, yet even in the city there are beautiful corners like this one featuring a Keith Haring mural! Wish we knew the title of this piece...

This simple DIY project is perfect for kids! Simply have them make a fist and dip the edge of their hand in non-toxic tempera paint, stamp on a piece of watercolor paper and repeat on the other side. In no time at all you'll have an adorable handmade heart that can be framed and hung for a simple Valentine's Day gift or for Mother's or Father's day. For older kids who are less squirmy you can extend the project and have them make the hearts into a circular wreath with green paint and paint a red bow on the top for a fun holiday project. We recently rediscovered this wonderful clip from Sesame Street that features Big Bird visiting Chuck Close in his studio to talk about painting. We love how gentle this classic TV show is and how brilliantly they incorporate concepts like color, shape and perspective into their programing!
