Chris Uphues and Grace Johnstone with the tour in front of Thomas Kovachevich's, “The Garden”
A big thank you to everyone who joined us at
NADA over the weekend. We had two wonderful kids tours led by Chris Uphues on Saturday and Yolande Whitcomb on Sunday and both were fun- and art-filled explorations of the fair! We had a super-creative group of kids who were eager to share their impressions and we were blown away by the engagement and insights of our crew. The Kids' Choice favorites included
Ben Jones' video paintings at
Loyal Gallery, a Roy Lichtenstein piece made with wallpaper and tinfoil at
Alden Projects (with huge thanks to Todd Alden who gave a wonderful talk) and
Thomas Kovachevich's cardboard and paper sculpture “The Garden” which was a great setting for using our imaginations. Quote of the weekend goes to Max who noted that a small Yves Klein blue square looked like "a blurry, fuzzy blue monster." In addition to the tours, all of the kids who jointed us walked away with LittleCollector tote bags, a NADA kids guide and crayons, ensuring that the creative process was just beginning! For those who missed the tour this time, be sure to sign up for our mailing list to get first notice of our next kids tour plus other fun art events hosted by LittleCollector in and around New York City.

NADA setup movie
We made a movie! Ok, granted it was our first outing with the iphone video recorder, AND Grace was filming it by herself in an echoey room, but you get the idea :). Click on the link above to check out this (very) rough intro to our booth at NADA and the behind-the-scenes action at Pier 36 as other booths set up yesterday afternoon. And while our cinematic skills might be kinda crummy, our kids tours aren't! Don't forget to rsvp for kids tours this Saturday and Sunday at 11am.

Last night we attended the opening of the
Collective .1 Design Fair at Pier 57. This inaugural design fair features a "cohesive, curated selection of contemporary design and historical pieces from galleries around the world" and LittleCollector is honored to be offering free kids tours for kids 4+ on Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th at noon and 1pm daily. Space is limited so rsvp to hello@littlecollector.com. And for design fans, the fair offers a wonderful selection of vintage and contemporary furniture, jewelry and design. Last night's standouts included a super-fun (and provocative) installation by
Sebastian Errazuriz that combined industrial fans and neon text, the tattoo-derived textiles and wallpaper in the
Grey Area booth and the public furnishing provided by American-made furniture purveyor
BDDW (the leather-backed chairs were particularly lovely).

Introducing Lemon the Lamb and Friends
Note from Chrissy:
I've got lots to share with you this week from fresh new art to fun kids' tours coming up next week at 2 art and design fairs. Want more inside scoop and deals? Sign up for our
newsletter.
"This week I'm very excited to present a bumper crop of new art fresh from the lens of Matthew Carden, the California-based photographer who brought you
Fast Cars Fast Food. SUPER MARKET is a vibrant new series of photographs that combines two of my favorite things, fresh produce and adorable animals! From Grapefruit the Giraffe to Lemon the Lamb these sweet photographs are fresh and colorful, just like the fruits and veggies that inspired them! Plus I love Matthew's exploratory approach to food: "a trip to the market can be an unexpected adventure. Every aisle has its own type of microclimate, its own unique flora and fauna, like vast landscapes full of life" he says. Check out the full album on
facebook and tell us which one is your favorite.
Chrissy's decorating tip: hang an even number of the same sized prints in a row or a grid for a clean, unified look.

We just discovered the super cute site of illustrator Lim Heng Swee and her site, I love doodle. We love the spirit of happiness and compassion that they invoke and it's always a good reminder to love yourself, as well as others! Love Yourself and Hugs Keep Us Alive are two of our favorites, but check out the full range here.

We just discovered this cute post from Art Basel which, although not all quotes are 100% accurate according to our colleague Annie :), still captures nicely the energy of our kids' tours of NADA.
Art Basel for Kids
by ELENA POTAPOVA and OLGA FILINA, Special to The Miami Herald.
"For families heading out to Art Basel and surrounding events this weekend, there is a special tour for kids at one fair that aims to instill some art appreciation at a young age.
LittleCollector, a website that sells contemporary art for children, will offer separate tours for kids of the New Art Dealers Alliance Art Fair at the Deauville Beach Resort.
The guides, each with a master's degree and trained to work with kids, will take children ages 5 to 10 through the sophisticated world of contemporary art. In free 45-minute tours, they explain to kids how to interact with the paintings of modern artists and understand them."
